MANILA HAS A NEW MAYOR

The former vice-mayor of the City of Manila who was also appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as Undersecretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development has won the mayoralty race of the city and has been proclaimed last week. He won by a lanslide margin against the incumbent Mayor and Former President Joseph Estrada and Former Mayor and Senator Alfredo Lim.

Francisco “Isko” Moreno Dumagoso is now the mayor-elect and will assume office on July 1, 2019. Right after his proclamtion he said, “For the past 18 years, I think Manileños were uniting for a different candidate to come alonh”. He added “I was not expecting Manileños to give me this mandate. It’s a statement made by the people of Manila. And we are very grateful. It’s a humbling experience”.

Moreno came from very humble beginnings. He was a scavenger, farm helper and actor. He studied, became a councilor and then vice-mayor. At 44 years of age, he is now more than ready to be the Mayor of the City of Manila.
