On September 22, 2019, at East Avenue Medical Center, the Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) patients gathered to commemorate the World CML Day.
World CML Day is celebrated every September 22. This is to raise awareness on the cause of the disease which is the translocation of the Philadelphia Chromosomes 9 and 22 that leads to the formation of an abnormal gene called BCR-ABL, which turns the normal human blood cell into a CML cell.
The DOH and PhilHealth representatives graced the occasion who discussed the recently signed National Integrated Cancer Control Act and the Universal Health Care. These government health programs aim to reduce premature mortality, and help in the improvement of cancer survivorship by strengthening essential programs and make cancer services and care more accessible to all Filipinos.
