Together, for a CML-free world

On September 22, 2019, at East Avenue Medical Center, the Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) patients gathered to commemorate the World CML Day.

World CML Day is celebrated every September 22. This is to raise awareness on the cause of the disease which is the translocation of the Philadelphia Chromosomes 9 and 22 that leads to the formation of an abnormal gene called BCR-ABL, which turns the normal human blood cell into a CML cell.

The DOH and PhilHealth representatives graced the occasion who discussed the recently signed National Integrated Cancer Control Act and the Universal Health Care. These government health programs aim to reduce premature mortality, and help in the improvement of cancer survivorship by strengthening essential programs and make cancer services and care more accessible to all Filipinos.

A CML patient who recently joined a singing contest on a popular TV network, Idol Philippines shared his cancer journey. Through his sharing, we now know that we are not alone in this journey.

With the help of Touched by Max, Inc., an advocate group for the physical, emotional, social and spiritual well-being of CML/GIST patients through the availability of social support services and Sun Pharma, it has been a successful event for the entire CML Community.
