It is with distinct honor and privilege to chair the 37th National Credit Congress organized by the Credit Management Association of the Philippines (CMAP) this year which coincides also with its 86th Anniversary.
We want to raise the standards of credit investigation, appraisal, collection, monitoring and even rating in our country. At the same time, we would like to extend our coverage nationwide through the organization of various regional chapters and worldwide starting with our Asean neighbors and partner countries.
We have just organized the regional chapters in Cebu for the Visayas and in Davao City for the Mindanao. Next month, we shall be forming the Southern Luzon Chapter in San Pablo City and the Northern Luzon Chapter in Baguio City. Last year, we have signed a Memorandum of Undertaking with China Council for the Promotion of Business Development as the starting point for cross-border credit information exchanges.
CMAP should be looked upon not as a scare crow but as a catalyst in making financing conveniently reachable by the small and medium industries.
It shall continue to train people to enhance their capabilities in all aspects of credit work. CMAP will continue to enhance also its data bank to include latest court and other records of people and businesses.
The work is never ending and evolving. I encourage everyone to do its share in this endeavor.
As I said, there are miles to go before we sleep.
